CPP Tomatozania Plant Sale Celebrates Spring with Hundreds of Heirloom Varieties

Female shopper looks at tomato varieties during Tomatozania at the Farm Store

Are you dreaming of summer and homemade tomato sauce or a savory salad featuring a rainbow of red, yellow and striped tomatoes in a range of flavors? Maybe you want to try some special heirloom varieties or are hoping for a variety of color.

Cal Poly Pomona’s Farm Store welcomes spring with the eagerly awaited TomatozaniaTM sale featuring hundreds of heirloom tomato varieties from micro tomato plants to those that flourish in large garden beds.

Varieties range from the well-known Beefsteak, Roma, Better Boy, Early Girl, Green Zebra and Cherokee Purple to the Abu Rawan, Blue Cream, Amana Orange, Chocolate Pear, Hawaiian Pineapple, Brandywine, and many more.

More information on the tomatoes available is posted on the Cal Poly Pomona Nursery website.

All the plants were propagated and grown by Cal Poly Pomona student employees, who are plant sciences majors. Proceeds benefit the plant science program and students.

The popular annual sale began in 1997, and its reputation has spread throughout the San Gabriel Valley and beyond. In 2024, approximately 1,600 gardeners purchased more than 6,000 plants in the opening weekend. Another 5,000 plants were sold in the weeks following.

The Farm Store’s nursery will also offer an impressive selection of spring plants to jump-start your garden, including spring herbs, zucchini, squash, cucumbers, beans, lettuce, strawberries and more.

For those looking for spice, Pepperzania begins in April with more than 150 varieties of tasty pepper plants, including sweet, specialty, international, hot, and Asian varieties.

In May, the Ultimate Pepper Plant Sale brings the heat with more than 60 varieties of super-hot peppers, including some of the world’s hottest such as Carolina Reapers, Ghost Peppers, and Trinidad Scorpions.
