The Office of Undergraduate Research hosted the 10th annual Creative Activities and Research Symposium (CARS) on Aug. 8, marking a significant milestone in showcasing student innovation, research, and creativity.

The event at the Bronco Student Center celebrated a decade of fostering academic excellence, providing a platform for students to present their groundbreaking projects and discoveries to the broader academic community.

The symposium, the culmination of an eight-week, faculty-mentored summer research program, featured 128 student presenters from Cal Poly Pomona and regional colleges, with 98 guests in attendance, including faculty, staff, and community members. Students presented their findings through research posters and oral presentations, offering attendees an insightful look into advancements across all disciplines.

“Presenting at CARS gave me the confidence to take my project to the next level,” said Madison Carraza, an animal science student. “Getting firsthand experience with research in my field will help me in the workforce as I will need to conduct hypotheses often.”

“My research focused on reducing waste in the textile industry. After working on my research for 8 weeks, it’s motivating to see how far I’ve come.” added Natasya Hadiwijaya, an international business marketing student.

Now in its 10th year, the symposium showcased a diverse range of topics, from engineering to humanities. The event facilitated intellectual exchange and networking, offering students the chance to connect with peers, faculty, and potential mentors to foster future research collaborations.

CARS continues to serve as a vital forum for students to gain exposure and recognition for their work, while promoting a culture of academic excellence. For more information about this years’ symposium, visit the Office of Undergraduate’s website or contact them directly at our-cpp@cpp.edu.
