The Office of Undergraduate Research will host the  10th Annual Creative Activities and Research Symposium (CARS), a premier event for students to showcase their innovative projects, research findings, and creative endeavors.

The milestone event, set for Thursday, Aug. 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Bronco Student Center, celebrates a decade of fostering academic excellence and creativity among students, providing a unique platform for them to present their discoveries and accomplishments to the broader academic community.

Each year, students from Cal Poly Pomona and other regional colleges participate in the eight-week, faculty-mentored summer research programs. The CARS symposium allows these students to present their findings to the Cal Poly Pomona community and receive feedback from their peers and mentors. Attending the symposium allows you to support talented individuals dedicated to their fields and offer valuable insights into the latest advancements across various disciplines.

“The CARS event, with the summer research programs under the Office of Undergraduate Research, provides scaffolding for students to participate in a high-impact educational practice proven to help them retain and graduate,” said Evan Baraza, interim faculty director of the Office of Undergraduate Research. “ I am very proud of the students, many who identify as first-generation or from minoritized backgrounds and their exceptional accomplishments. This work cannot be done without the support of CPP faculty and staff advisors.”

This year’s symposium will feature a diverse array of presentations, exhibitions, and performances showcasing students’ remarkable achievements. Attendees can expect thought-provoking research posters, engaging oral presentations, captivating visual art displays and interactive exhibits that promise to inspire.

The CARS symposium also provides a fantastic opportunity to learn about the latest research at Cal Poly Pomona. With presentations covering a wide range of topics, from engineering to the humanities, the event is a hub for intellectual exchange and collaboration. It also offers significant networking opportunities, allowing students to connect with peers and potential mentors for future research endeavors.

The symposium is open to all members of the Cal Poly Pomona community, including students, faculty, staff, and the general public. It provides an excellent platform for students to gain exposure and recognition for their hard work while fostering intellectual curiosity and academic excellence.
