A transformative center dedicated to invigorating Pomona’s workforce and empowering local entrepreneurs will open in downtown Pomona.

The Cal Poly Pomona Community Innovation Hub, managed by the Office of Academic Innovation, will host its grand opening on Aug. 29 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Mission Boulevard site. The hub represents a significant investment in the community’s future, focusing on empowering individuals and businesses, fostering growth, innovation, and economic revival.

“The Community Innovation Hub is a testament to our commitment to empowering the Pomona community,” said Olukemi Sawyerr, associate vice president for the Office of Academic Innovation. “Our goal is to create a dynamic environment where creativity meets opportunity, ensuring that Pomona’s workforce is at the forefront of progress and ready to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.”

The hub, made possible by a community project funding request secured by Congresswoman Norma Torres (CA-35), focuses on several key areas enhancing skills through programs designed to upskill and reskill community members, equipping them with the tools and knowledge needed to thrive in various STEAM disciplines. It will also empower entrepreneurs and local businesses by providing a supportive environment, offering access to essential services, co-working spaces, and equipment to spur innovation and growth. Additionally, the hub will strengthen community ties, serving as a cornerstone for economic revival in response to the significant employment challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, fostering a skilled, diverse workforce that supports and sustains local business ecosystems.

The grand opening will feature special guest speakers, including University President Soraya M. Coley; Congresswoman Torres and Sawyerr.

Attendees will enjoy light refreshments and a guided tour of the facility. Participants will have the opportunity to have their headshots taken on-site by a professional photographer.
