Cal Poly Pomona Releases Water Quality Report for 2023

Facilities Planning & Management has released its 2023 Water Quality Report. The in-depth report contains important information about the quality of the campus drinking water and the university’s efforts to continue to provide the highest quality water.

In 2023, Cal Poly Pomona’s drinking water met or exceeded all drinking water health standards of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the State of California. The report covers testing of campus water between Jan. 1, 2023, and Dec. 31, 2023.

In order to ensure that water is safe to drink, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the State Water Resources Control Board (State Water Board) prescribe regulations that limit the number of certain contaminants in water provided by public water systems.

For 2023, the drinking water delivered to the campus community met or exceeded the standards established by these federal and state agencies. This annual report fully complies with the regulations of the 1996 Safe Drinking Water Act.

CPP uses both ground and surface water supplies to produce drinking water. Most of the drinking water that is produced comes from the domestic groundwater Well 1 that is located on university property and permitted by the State Water Board. This domestic water well is tapped into the Spadra groundwater basin and water extracted from this well is treated by a process known as reverse osmosis. The treated water may also be blended with water purchased from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD).
