CPP Events to Celebrate APIDA Heritage Month
Cal Poly Pomona is celebrating Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi American (APIDA) Heritage Month with various events designed by our cultural centers and associations on campus.
APIDA Heritage Month is recognized in May, but our campus is starting the celebration in April because our campus community will be busy concluding the spring semester with finals and commencement in May.
With events curated by the Asian and Pacific Islander Student Center (APISC), Sri Lankan Student Association (SLSA), Nikkei Student Union (NSU), Barkada, Vietnamese Student Association, and many others, we invite the CPP community to join the celebration.
April 9, 12 p.m.-1:30 p.m., Asian and Pacific Islander Student Center
Join us for Weave & Sip with the APISC to learn about the cultural significance of weaving within Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi communities. Attendees will have the opportunity to make placemats, coasters, or items of their choice.
KPOP Dance Workshops
Every Friday in April, 6 p.m.-8 p.m., BRIC Studio C
Participate in weekly dance workshops with CPP’s KPOP dance team in Studio C. Join the team to learn a new and fun KPOP dance every week to show your love for KPOP, dance, and learning new things. Workshops will occur until the end of April.
APIDA Heritage Month Luncheon

Join CPP Dining and the APISC in celebrating APIDA Heritage Month at Centerpointe for cultural entrees and desserts.
Dhyan Hewage x SLSA
April 11, 12 p.m.-1 p.m., Building 163, Room 1005
Attend famous Sri Lankan singer and song writer Dhyan Hewage’s talk about his life as a Sri Lankan artist and experience in the music industry. Don’t miss out on Dhyan performing some of his hit songs.
Nikkei Student Union’s 15th Annual Culture Night
April 12, 6:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m., Curtis Theatre in Brea (1 Civic Center, Brea, CA 92821)
Experience CPP’s Nikkei Student Union's 15th Annual Culture Night and watch a performance celebrating Japanese American culture through traditional and modern dance, Kendo and Laido, Taiko (traditional Japanese drumming), and a stage play representing issues facing the Japanese American community.
34th Annual Pilipinx American Culture night (PACN)
April 14, 6:00 p.m., Lewis Family Playhouse (12505 Cultural Center Drive, Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91739)
CPP's Barkada’s Pilipinx-American Cultural Night is a student-led, two-act play that celebrates Pilipinx-American culture through traditional dances from different regions of the Philippines and a theatrical performance highlighting the experiences of the Pilipinx-American diaspora.
Venba Playthrough and Lunch
April 18, 10:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Building 95, Room 101
Game with APISC as they play the Tamil narrative cooking game, Venba. Pick up some recipe cards featuring in-game recipes and enjoy provided South Indian food.
April 19, 9:00 p.m.-2:00 a.m., The Lash (117 Winston Street, Los Angeles, CA 90013)
Join the Indian Student Association and Los Angeles Spice Events for a magical evening, from red carpet entrances to electrifying DJ beats during an event that blends Indian culture and nightlife vibes.
APIDA Fest

Immerse yourself into Asian, Pacific Islander, Desi and SWANA culture through cultural crafts and arts provided by CPP's APISC.
Asian and Pacific Islander Beach & Bonfire
April 27, 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m., (RSVP mandatory to receive event location)
The CPP APISC and CSUDH Immigrant Justice Center will host a bonfire! Join the API Beach & Bonfire to connect with other students in Southern California who are/were undocumented or whose parents are still navigating the immigration system. Smores, pizza, and drinks provided.

An event designed for athletic competition between Barkada members and other internal/external organizations welcomes all students.
Sayaw n’ Sip Pilipino Dance Workshop

Join CPP's Pilipino Alumni Chapter in celebrating International Day of Dance by learning about a traditional Pilipino Dance from the Maria Clara suite. Food and drinks will be provided.
22nd Annual APIDA Graduation
May 10, 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., University Theatre
Celebrate the Class of 2024 and their accomplishments during the 22nd annual Asian, Pacific Islander, Desi American graduation. All students are welcome and invited to attend. Graduates must apply by April 12 at 11:59 p.m. and attendees can RSVP here.
24th Annual Pilipino Graduation
May 11, 12 p.m., Bronco Studio Union, Ursa Major
Pilipino Graduation is open to all graduating students from the 2023-2024 academic year. The celebration includes cultural performances and entertainment, a motivational keynote speaker, and a variety of other surprises. Graduates wishing to be featured must register here.
Meditation Soundbath Workshop
May 25, 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., KIN Unified Healing, Walnut
Experience how sound can be used for healing on a physical, emotional, and energetic level with a Meditation Soundbath Workshop provided by the CPP Alumni Association. Tickets are limited.
