Cal Poly Pomona has been honored for its exemplary work in simplifying the transfer process for students through the Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT).
The 2023 Equity Champion for Excellence in Transfer Award from The Campaign for College Opportunity recognizes the university as an Equity Champion for Higher Education for Latinx Students. The campus ensured that over half of our Latinx undergraduate transfer students from California community colleges in 2022 were ADT earners, and of those ADT earners, over half were on a guaranteed pathway.
The university's success in implementing the ADT is due in part to programs like PolyTransfer, explained Dora Lee, director of Academic Support and Learning Services. PolyTransfer includes a summer academy for prospective students, a summer transition program for admitted students, and in-person and virtual workshops at community colleges on topics such as admissions, financial aid and majors/career pathways.
"PolyTransfer provides strategic early engagement opportunities to our prospective community college students, emphasizing support for underserved, underrepresented and first-generation students," Lee said. "Our objective is to close knowledge gaps related to transfer, particularly in relation to ADT, while fostering a sense of community and belonging."
ADT students also receive holistic coaching and advising through PolyTransfer and the academic advising team, and they have the opportunity to join California Promise, which offers priority registration.
Jessica Wagoner, senior AVP for Enrollment Management & Services, added that over the past two years, CPP has expanded the number of academic programs that allow a more streamlined transfer from community college to the CSU (Transfer Model Curricula, or TMCs) from 24 to 37 programs, so transfer students now have more options clearly laid out for them.
Cal Poly Pomona's automated and streamlined ADT admission and transfer credit processes has led to more approved ADTs, expedited verification and enhanced student communication.
The Campaign for College Opportunity will announce the award this afternoon, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. on Instagram Live.
