Cal Poly Pomona Celebrates Latinx Heritage Month

Cal Poly Pomona welcomes Latinx Heritage Month on campus with celebrations of the rich tapestry of Latinx history and cultures.

Latinx Heritage Month is celebrated annually across the United States from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. The purpose of this celebration is to honor the Latinx community for their contributions in our communities, as well as acknowledge the history and culture of more than 20 Latin American countries.

All students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in workshops and events hosted by different resource centers and organizations across campus. These events and more are available on MyBar and a Cal Poly Pomona Latinx Heritage Month zoom background can be downloaded here.

Sept. 15 to Oct. 15

Latinx Heritage Month Book Display
Discover new Latinx authors and add a few books to your reading list by browsing through the hand-picked book selection on the second floor of the University Library.

Sept. 19
Library Loteria
Ready to shout "Loteria!" and celebrate with the University Library? Gather for a fun game of loteria on the fourth floor in the special events room (15-4829) for a chance to win amazing prizes.

Sept. 21
Ethnic Solidarity in the Fields: 50th Anniversary of Filipino and Mexican Immigrant Farm Worker Unity for the Agbayani Village
Join in dialogue on organizing Mexican American and Filipino farm workers. The event is hosted by the University Library from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the third floor Grand Reading Room.

Sept. 25
Sana con CECCHE: Demystifying Mental Health
Learn about the common mental health issues surrounding Latinx college students. Join CPP's César E. Chávez Center for Higher Education for an informative presentation hosted by a Counseling and Psychological Services counselor from 3 to 4 p.m. Free food will be provided.

Sept. 26
Latin Alumni Network Talk-O-Tuesday: Networking 101
Students can learn from the Cal Poly Pomona Latin Alumni Network members about the power of networking and gain the tools, and confidence to build rewarding personal and professional relationships. Lunch will be provided at the event from 12 to 1 p.m. in the Bronco Student Center, Ursa Minor.

Sept. 28
'The Last Brown Beret' Film Screening and Q&A
The film, which is based on a play, follows a group of former Brown Berets reuniting for the funeral of one of their fallen comrades. After the screening, you can participate in a Q&A session with the director, Del Zamora, and Brown Berets Riverside Chapter. The event will be held in the University Theatre from 6 to 9 p.m.

Hiking con CECCHE: Exploring La Naturaleza
Looking for an unforgettable outdoor adventure? Join CECCHE to explore the breathtaking views of Big Dalton Canyon in Glendora from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Latinx Heritage Month: Library Pop-Up
Discover the treasure of literature, art and culture as the University Library celebrates the Latinx community. Learn about compelling stories and immerse yourself into the culture from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the second floor of the library in the community zone.

Mindfulness Monday
Take a breather from 3:15 to 3:45 p.m. with CECCHE. Pause, reflect and find your inner peace as you're guided to reduce stress, increase focus and enhance your overall well-being.

Latinx Counterspace: Intersection of Art, La Resistencia, Y La Cultura
Art, resistance and culture come together to tell a powerful narrative from Latinx artists who challenge the norms, break barriers and celebrate the Latinx heritage. Join the event from 5 to 7 p.m. in the BSC, Ursa Minor.

Streamline Your Semester
Join CPP Latin Alumni Network board members for lunch from 12 to 1 p.m. in the Bronco Student Center, Ursa Minor as they share personal testimonials of their college experience and evidence-based practices that will help with student success.

Celebrate your authentic self by joining the LGBTQ+ Latinx community in a Jotería Night. Gathering pride, culture and community from 6 to 8 p.m. in the BSC, Ursa Major.
