The Cal Poly Pomona community united this past week to demonstrate its unwavering support for student dreams of success and make the campus' 10th annual Giving Day event the most successful on record.
Broncos raised $630,000 through 1,560 gifts during the two-day online fundraising event April 19-20 - beating last year's daily totals by more than 20 percent and 31 percent, respectively. The funds will go to support many of the university's resources, programs and clubs.
This year also saw the most ambassador participation ever. With more than 174 ambassadors who advocated for their favorite programs through a personalized donation link, gifts poured in from across the globe, spanning 32 states and five different countries.
"Success is rarely a solitary achievement," said Catherine Quirk, leadership annual giving director. "From our board members to our volunteer ambassadors to our generous donors, this really has been a team effort. We truly appreciate that so many members of our Bronco community came together to make this happen."
This year's 159 different funding opportunities included at least one per college, and others such as CPP's Rose Float, the W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center and student organizations like Bronco Racing: Baja SAE.
The Huntley College of Agriculture raised the most out of all participants this year, accounting for more than 16 percent of the Giving Day total. The funding will support various scholarships and agricultural facilities on campus, providing students with continued hands-on experiences in their experimental kitchens, food science libraries, veterinary clinics, greenhouses, vineyards and animal laboratories.
Equally impressive, CPP's Division of Student Affairs raised more than $92,425 through 244 gifts. Contributions to Student Affairs will fund culturally relevant support programs for students all over campus, such as the Veterans Resource Center, Womxn's Resource Center Cares scholarship, Black Thriving Initiative, Parenting Students Support and Basic Needs Support.
New features of this year's Giving Day were its first on-campus celebration where students and faculty could sign thank you cards to donors. Also new was the launch of several digital wallet payment options, including Paypal, Apple Pay and Venmo - making donating more accessible than ever.
