As a designated Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), Cal Poly Pomona proudly celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15.
Recognizing the cultural contributions and legacies of Latino/a/x communities, the celebration coincides with the independence anniversaries of several Latin American nations.
The university will be hosting various events and sharing stories that honor the legacy of our Latino/a/x students, faculty, staff and alumni community. The following are some of the ways the campus plans to celebrate:
The César E. Chávez Center for Higher Education - which is committed to increasing the outreach, recruitment, retention, graduation, and cultural pride of Chicanxs/Latinxs at Cal Poly Pomona - welcomes the campus community to its Fall Open House. You're invited to this celebration of the new semester while enjoying the company of peers and staff. There will be light refreshments and tours of the center.
The Latin Alumni Network - a coalition to cultivate partnerships with the corporate sector, community organizations, and dedicated individuals - invites you to join them for "Conquering Adversity to Embark on Success" on Tuesday, Sept. 20, The event is to celebrate this year's Hilda L. Solis scholarship award recipients. The evening will include light refreshments and appetizers and will feature keynote speaker Edgar "Shoboy" Sotelo ('04, psychology), a Mexican immigrant, entrepreneur, and host of his successful and independently owned radio program, "The Shoboy Show."
