With a narrow window before the anticipated return of all in-person classes in the fall, the westbound lane of University Drive is scheduled to close starting on Monday, June 20 to expedite the roadway rehabilitation project.
The lane closure will allow contractor crews to speed up the rehabilitation of University Drive, which includes widening of the street, installing a new layer of asphalt, constructing new crosswalks and improving (Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility. The westbound lane is expected to be closed through the end of July in the first phase of the project.
Drivers using the westbound lane of University Drive will be directed to turn left at Magnolia Lane or Oak Lane to access Parking Structure 1 or the F-series parking lots. The eastbound lane will remain open.
Access to Parking Lot J or the lot behind Building One is available by using the eastbound lane of University Drive starting at Temple Avenue. University Drive becomes an eastbound-only lane starting at Camphor Lane.
To access eastbound University Drive from the Kellogg Drive offramp of the I-10 Freeway, drivers should proceed along Kellogg Drive until they reach South Campus Drive. Turn right onto South Campus Drive to Temple Avenue. Make a right turn at Temple Avenue then proceed about one-quarter mile then turn right onto eastbound University Drive.
Kellogg House can be accessed by using eastbound University Drive at Temple Avenue then proceeding to Mansion Lane, which will remain open during the project.
Parking along University Drive is prohibited during the construction work. Parking in Lot J, the lot behind Building One and the F-series parking lots will be available. ADA parking spaces in front of Building One will be relocated to the lot behind the building.
Drivers should expect delays and allow extra time to reach destinations near the construction zone. Motorists and pedestrians also are urged to use caution when approaching the roadway construction zones. Follow detours signs and the directions of traffic officers.
The rehabilitation work is expected to generate intermittent noise.
