Cal Poly Pomona held a brief virtual moment of reflection on March 26 in honor of those lost to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The program, meant to bring the campus community together in solidarity, featured a moment of silence, remarks from Cal Poly Pomona President Soraya M. Coley, an original poem by alumna Samara Gomez ('20), and a montage of photos reflecting on the last year, including those lost to the virus within the campus community.
President Coley offered her opening remarks live from outside Manor House to recognize the moment: "Despite the immense challenges and heartache brought on by the pandemic, our campus community goes forward with courage and determination. Every day, you inspire me with your resilience and commitment."
A reflection wall has been created on the #CPPTogether website, allowing visitors to leave their own reflection on the change, loss, and emotion brought about by the pandemic. Additionally, a recording of the event has been uploaded to the reflection page for those who were unable to attend.
March marks one year since the World Health Organization (WHO) officially declared COVID-19 a pandemic. It was at that same time the campus transitioned almost entirely to virtual instruction and work - a historic moment for the campus.
