A Message to the Campus Community
To the campus community,
It is with great difficulty and sadness that we write to you today. This morning, we learned that we have lost a beloved colleague, leader and champion for students in Kevin Colaner, associate vice president and chief of operations in the Division of Student Affairs.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
This is a devastating loss for our campus community and especially the students he has enthusiastically served throughout his career. Since he joined Cal Poly Pomona in 2008, Kevin has brought dynamic energy, creativity, leadership and a deep commitment to diversity and inclusion.
His leadership has seen us through countless challenges, transitions and complex situations. Knowing that we are stronger when we come together, he worked hard to build bridges with humor and authenticity. Kevin had the ability to bring out the best of us. We know that we are not alone in being shocked and heartbroken by this news. We will miss him deeply.
Kevin's unexpected passing has been extremely difficult for his family, and they've asked us to respect their privacy and not share private information. We will respect their wishes and reach out them on an individual basis. In light of concerns regarding the coronavirus pandemic, his family has confirmed that his passing was not due to Covid-19.
We know this announcement will cause distress and grief. As a campus, we mourn together, and we support one another. If you are hurting, please reach out and talk with a counselor. Information about support services is at the end of this message.
We are planning a virtual memorial event as a campus community and will share details when they are available. We will not soon forget Kevin's love and deep commitment for our students and this campus.
Sincerely,
Megan M. Stang, Ed.D.
Administrator in Charge for Student Affairs
