Christina Gonzales Appointed VP Student Affairs at Cal Poly Pomona

Christina Gonzales

Christina M. Gonzales is the new Vice President for Student Affairs at Cal Poly Pomona, following a national search. She began her new duties on July 1 and brings more than 20 years of higher education experience to the position.

As head of the Division of Student Affairs and chief student affairs officer, Gonzales provides strategic management of the division and plays a key leadership role in setting and enacting the University's programs and priorities.

She leads a diverse portfolio of 20 departments across the Division, including University Housing, Student Health and Wellbeing services, new student orientation, and the Cultural Centers. Additionally, Student Affairs supports more than 300 student organizations, emergency and veteran services, and leadership programs.

Gonzales will be an advocate for students on and off campus and work across all divisions and units of the university to enhance the transformational student experience that is a hallmark of Cal Poly Pomona.

Prior to her move to Pomona, Gonzales was at the University of Colorado Boulder, where she served as vice chancellor for Student Affairs and a member of the Chancellor's Executive Team. At the University of California, Berkeley, she served as the associate vice chancellor and dean of students, and previously as the Associate Dean of Students.

Active in student affairs at the national level, Gonzales has been serving on various committees and boards of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities, and the Association of American Universities.

She holds a bachelor's degree in history from Western New Mexico University and a Master of Arts degree in educational management and development from New Mexico State University.
