The Cal Poly Pomona first-generation college student community will participate in the national First-Generation College Celebration with a slate of events Nov. 4-8, 2019.

The events are tied to the Office of Student Success's I AM FIRST campaign, which celebrates the students, faculty and staff who self-identify as first-generation college students. Students are considered first-generation if neither of their natural or adoptive parents received a baccalaureate degree.

On Nov. 5, everyone is invited to the CPP Common Read Event, "How We Become." A panel of faculty and alumni will share their "becoming" life stories, based on Michelle Obama's memoir "Becoming." The event is from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Bronco Student Center, Ursa Major. RSVP here.

On Nov. 6, I AM FIRST will host a first-gen mentor/mentee mixer for students, faculty and staff who are interested in participating in a mentorship program. The event is from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Bronco Student Center, Ursa Major A. RSVP here.

The week's events will end on Nov. 7 with the First-Generation Community Celebration. There will be free food, a photo booth, giveaways and more from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in University Park.

In further celebration, the Bronco Advising Center social media accounts will be sharing stories and quotes from members of the campus community. Starbucks, Saddles and International Grounds will also have I AM FIRST-branded drink sleeves while supplies last.
