Inaugural Celebration of Research Week held at Cal Poly Pomona

The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) promoted the first ever Celebration of Research Week

Last week, the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) promoted the first ever Celebration of Research Week, which will be held every fourth week of April. In the inaugural year, ten different events were hosted across campus that recognized and celebrated Cal Poly Pomona student and faculty research. Photos of all the events can be found in the OUR Facebook album.

Participation ranged from student presentations at specific colleges to campus-wide research and creative activities. More than 700 research presentations were given throughout the week while hundreds of members of the campus community came to inquire about the various projects, watch research presentations, and participate in networking and social events.

Two of the college symposiums have established long-lasting research traditions at Cal Poly Pomona, including the College of Science Research Symposium and College of Engineering Symposium. Moreover, Poly-Kroma celebrates the works of talented art students on campus each year, while the Kellogg Honors College (KHC) hosts their annual Convocation, allowing students to fulfill their capstone project requirement needed to graduate with honors from the KHC.

The Collins College and Don B. Huntley College of Agriculture held their first-ever research symposiums this year, where students were able to present their project posters to the community. Both colleges plan to continue this tradition as part of the Celebration of Research Week.

Moreover, three research teams won first place awards at the 33rd Annual CSU system-wide Student Research Competition held at CSU Fullerton. Approximately 275 student researchers competed in 22 sessions for first and second place recognition.

Other events included the McNairs Scholars Research Symposium, Research Scholar Recognition, and Research Faculty Social.
