Master Plan Student Forum on BSC Scheduled

Topics of discussion at the Master Plan student forum include the construction of additional shaded areas and outdoor seating near the Bronco Student Center.

Students are invited to attend the next Campus Master Plan forum that will focus on potential improvements in and around the Bronco Student Center.

The student-centered forum on Thursday, Nov. 29, will start at U-Hour and is scheduled to run until 2 p.m. The session will be held outdoors in University Park adjacent to the BSC. In the event of rain, the forum will be moved inside the BSC to the second-floor rotunda near the gallery.

Students are encouraged to share their viewpoints about the potential construction of additional shade areas and outdoor seating around the BSC and across the campus. Surveys about outdoor space needs, including additional seating and tables, and current BSC indoor uses will be conducted.

In addition, attendees will be asked about their preferred spaces to study and socialize on campus, the amount of time they spend at the BSC on a typical day, and their activities inside the BSC. Participants also will be asked to propose suggested improvements for the center.

Faculty, staff and members of the Campus Master Plan Advisory Committee also are urged to share their viewpoints about potential BSC improvements.

Representatives from Associated Students Inc., the Cal Poly Pomona Foundation, Cal Poly Pomona Facilities Planning & Management and master plan consulting firm Ayers Saint Gross will lead the discussion. Ayers Saint Gross is formulating the next Campus Master Plan.

Input from students at the forum will help determine the course of action for the Bronco Student Center, which opened in 2003.

The student forum will help shape a draft of the Campus Master Plan, which will undergo administrative review. When the next master plan is adopted, Facilities Planning & Management will be tasked to carry out the objectives that involve the campus infrastructure.

The BSC is a gathering spot and social hub for students. The facility features a games room, a food court, study lounges, a box office, a multipurpose space and additional meeting rooms.
