S. Terri Gomez has been named associate vice president for student success in the Division of Academic Affairs, effective June 18.

Gomez has served as the interim associate vice president for student success since January 2016. In this role, she guided the development of the new Office of Student Success, which oversees student success initiatives, university advising, academic support services and first-year experience programs.

She brings extensive experience collaborating and building strong partnerships across divisions to advance student success on the campus. Last June, she received the Division of Student Affairs Partnership Award for providing critical and valuable support to students and the division.

Gomez earned her bachelor's, master's and doctorate from UCLA in political science. She joined the campus in 2000 as an adjunct faculty. In 2002, she accepted a tenure-track position in the Department of Ethnic & Women's Studies, where she also served as department chair. She served as interim associate dean of the College of Education & Integrative Studies prior to joining the academic affairs leadership team.

As associate vice president of student success, she will continue to provide strategic oversight to the institutional student success efforts, including campus progress on the CSU Graduation Initiative 2025, full implementation of data-supported College-Based Student Success Teams, and implementation of campus predictive analytics and early alert system in the fall.
