Members of the campus community who have an interest in sustainability are encouraged to attend the next Campus Master Plan open workshop.
Ayers Saint Gross, the architectural firm that is leading the master planning process, will hold the workshop on Wednesday, Feb. 28, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. in the England Evans Room at the Bronco Student Center.
The open workshop aims to collect feedback about sustainability and to gauge viewpoints from the campus community about the university's efforts in that regard. The information will help shape a draft of the Campus Master Plan.
The consulting firm also is scheduled to deliver an update on the process to the Campus Master Plan Advisory Committee on Thursday, March 1. Stakeholder meetings with representatives of the University Library, University Police and the Office of Student Life & Cultural Centers also have been set.
After receiving input from Transportation Advisory Committee and members from Associated Students Inc., university housing, Bronco athletics, health services, and student groups during sessions in January, the focus turns to sustainability, which is one of the university's core values.
The university's sustainability efforts include a network of solar panels, a reverse-osmosis plant that produces drinking water, a fleet of electric vehicles, the use of drought-tolerant plants in landscaping, a Waste Reduction and Recycling Program, and the use of reclaimed water to irrigate landscape and crops.
Meetings are planned in the upcoming months with groups from the surrounding Pomona community to collect and assess perceptions from outside the campus. Other on-campus sessions could include presentations about space usage.
By fall 2018, a draft of the Campus Master Plan is expected to be ready for consideration by university leadership. When the next master plan is adopted, the Department of Facilities Planning & Management will carry out any changes to the campus infrastructure. The current Campus Master Plan was adopted in 2000.
