Learn how to avoid hackers, phishing scams, banking fraud, blackmailing schemes, and the risks of using free public WiFi, at the Cyber Security and Awareness Fair on Tuesday, Oct. 31, between 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. in BSC Ursa Major.
A replica Smart Home will provide the opportunity for hands-on hacking with internet-connected devices, lock picking and guidance on how to secure your privacy and property. The home set will also have baby monitors, teddy bears, crockpots and coffee makers for users to hack.
Speakers include:
- 11 a.m - ProofPoint's Scott Meyer will discuss the security landscape and future trends in cyber security.
- Noon - Keynote speaker Ahmed Saleh, from IBM, will give an update on next generation incident response and threat intelligence analysis through cognitive computing; and
- 1 p.m. - Salim Neino, from Kryptos Logi, on botnets, ransomware, its evolution and why it matters to business.
Visitors can journey further down the rabbit hole into the world of Cyber Security Awareness, by helping to judge the Cyber Security and Forensic Research posters and the chance to win a prize like a Nintendo Switch, books or t-shirts. There is also a security-themed scavenger hunt and free pizza, while supplies last, for those attending the presentations.
"Our goal is to provide the information everyone needs to know in everyday life to be more aware," says Christopher Laasch, chair of the 13th annual Cyber Security and Awareness Fair.
