The Department of Theatre and New Dance is introducing a modern take on the Shakespeare classic, "The Taming of the Shrew."

Directed by C. Julian White, an associate professor in the theatre department, the play tells the story of a girl named Bianca who is not allowed to marry until her older sister Kate does. Shrewish, guarded Kate has a knack for scaring off any and all men who have the audacity to try and court her. At least, until she meets Petruchio, a man with a plan to win her over.

Cal Poly Pomona's version of this beloved Shakespearean comedy takes place in modern times. For an added bonus, the director decided to combat the misogynistic viewpoints found in the play by featuring an almost all-female cast.

"The Taming of the Shrew" will be performed in the University Theatre on Nov. 11, 12, 17, 18 and 19 at 8 p.m. Matinees will also be available on Nov. 16 at 10 a.m. and Nov. 20 at 2 p.m.
