Angels to Honor Cal Poly Pomona Baseball Team

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim will recognize Cal Poly Pomona's baseball team.

In celebration of the team's national success in the past two seasons, the Cal Poly Pomona baseball program will be recognized at Angel Stadium.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are hosting the Houston Astros on Friday, Sept. 30 at 7:05 p.m. About 30 minutes prior to first pitch, the coaches and student-athletes representing Cal Poly Pomona baseball will stand on the field to be honored.

The Broncos are led by head coach Randy Betten, who also competed in the Angels' minor league system during his playing days. CPP baseball has advanced to the NCAA Division II World Series in each of the last two seasons, placing third nationally in both 2015 and 2016.

From those two teams, a total of 10 Cal Poly Pomona baseball players have been selected in the MLB Draft. There are now 14 former Broncos playing in the minor leagues, including two for the Angels - Geoff Broussard and Max Bethell.

The Cal Poly Pomona Alumni Association is also hosting the "Alumni Evening at the Ballpark" at Friday's Angels game. Although tickets to the alumni reception are sold out, everyone is encouraged to attend the game and cheer on the Broncos' baseball team during the recognition!

The 2017 CPP baseball season will begin in early February.
