Realignment of Offices in the Division of Administrative Affairs

University News

Some of the offices within the Division of Administrative Affairs are being realigned and restructured to improve services and professional opportunities for employees and give greater attention to the prevention of institutional risks. The changes are being implemented after consultation with the Executive Committee of the Academic Senate.

Under the continued leadership of Associate Vice President Sharon Reiter, the Office of Human Resources will focus on the administration of payroll, benefits, worker's compensation and management of the Human Resources Customer Services Center. The incoming Vice President for Administrative Affairs will recruit for an Associate Vice President to oversee staff recruitment, compensation and classification, labor relations, training and professional development - moving the functions from Human Resources at that time into a new unit to be designated Talent Development, Management and Employee Engagement.

Lauren Nile, currently in Human Resources, is being reassigned to serve as Acting Director of Training and Professional Development. Nile will assume her temporary reassignment on Aug. 1. Her office will be located in the CLA Building, B1-35. The incoming Vice President for Administrative Services will launch a search for the permanent director.

The restructure is intended to increase the accuracy and efficiency of the transactions related to payroll and benefits, as well as improve services to employees. Greater attention can be given to increasing training and professional opportunities for staff.

Rufus Gant, currently in Information Technology, is being reassigned to the position of Acting Executive Director of the Department of Institutional Risk, which will include Environmental Health & Safety, Emergency Management & Business Continuity, Information Security, and Risk Management. The new department will allow the university to systematically manage and address the many areas of risk faced by the campus, such as natural disasters, first responder incidents, network and data threats, as well as environmental health and safety hazards.

Gant's temporary reassignment is effective immediately, and his office is located in the CLA Building, B1-36. The incoming Vice President for Administrative Services will conduct the search for a permanent executive director.

The Office of Diversity & Compliance is being transferred from the Office of Human Resources to the Office of Equity, Inclusion and Compliance (OEIC), formerly the Title IX office. OEIC reports directly to the president. Elevating diversity and compliance is intended to foster a more inclusive academic environment and full adherence to applicable legal requirements.
