Message to Campus: Events in San Bernardino

University News

To the campus community:

The shootings in San Bernardino stunned our nation and also struck our Cal Poly Pomona community. Bennetta Betbadal, a 2003 College of Science alumna, was one of the individuals killed during the attack. In addition, the parent of one of our current students was critically wounded.

Words cannot fully describe the range of emotions we are experiencing. This tragedy truly touches us all. San Bernardino is part of our community, and we are connected in more ways than can be counted.

As a campus community, let us put aside any differences and simply see each other as everyday people who have more in common than not. We are not a community of strangers, but are sisters and brothers, parents and children, students and working people, friends and family members.

During this difficult time, we should show even greater kindness and compassion toward all people. Cal Poly Pomona is an amazing community of students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends. Thanks to each of you for your contribution to the environment of Cal Poly Pomona. Please keep in your thoughts our Cal Poly Pomona family members and others affected by these events.
