Mahyar Amouzegar, dean of the College of Engineering, has announced that fall quarter 2015 will be his last quarter as dean. He will join the faculty in the Department of Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering beginning Jan. 3, 2016.

Amouzegar has served as dean since July 2011. Previously, he was the associate dean of Engineering for Research, Development and Graduate Studies, as well as professor of Electrical Engineering at Cal State Long Beach.

"Dr. Amouzegar has made important contributions as dean of College of Engineering," says Provost Sylvia Alva. "I appreciate the leadership and service he has provided the college and understand his desire to teach and mentor the next generation of innovative engineers."

Prior to his tenure at Long Beach as the associate dean for research, development and graduate studies, Amouzegar served as senior analyst in the National Security Division of the RAND Corporation, assistant professor of mathematics at Massey University in New Zealand, and a visiting professor at UCLA and Cal State Los Angeles.

Amouzegar has a Ph.D. in electrical engineering, and degrees in operations research search from UCLA. He completed his undergraduate education in applied mathematics from San Francisco State. His research focused on the development of new solution techniques for nonlinear bilevel programming problems with applications to environmental economics.

Provost Alva will be consulting campus and college leaders to appoint an interim dean. The university will conduct a national search for a new dean, reflecting the college's role as a national leader in engineering.

"Given the college's national reputation and stature in the field of engineering, I am confident we will attract a talented and diverse pool of applicants to fill this key leadership position."
