Pioneer in Online Learning to Address PolyTeach Conference

Lynda Weinman, author and co-founder of the online education company lynda.com, will speak Friday, April 3 at PolyTeach.

The co-founder of one of the world's most successful online education companies will speak Friday, April 3, at this year's annual PolyTeach conference.

Lynda Weinman, who also serves as the executive chair of lynda.com, is a self-taught computer expert, author, educator and entrepreneur. Her company teaches technology, design, and business skills to its millions of subscribers, including Cal Poly Pomona faculty, staff and students through its library of instructional videos featuring experts from various industries.

The web graphics and design veteran wrote the first industry book on her field, titled "Designing Web Graphics," in 1995. Before she and her husband, Bruce Heavin, co-founded lynda.com, Weinman taught at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and worked as an animator and motion graphics director for film special effects. She also has taught at UCLA Extension, the American Film Institute and San Francisco State.

Weinman and Heavin launched lynda.com as a free resource for her students, but it has become the site for her books on web design, a registration hub for physical classrooms and conferences, and an award-winning online learning company.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Bronco Student Center's Ursa Major. Registration is required.

Visit PolyTeach for more information about the conference and how to register.
