Cal Poly Pomona will honor the university's past and celebrate its present and future at Homecoming 2015 on Saturday, Feb. 21.

The event will kick off at 11 a.m. and last until midnight. Festivities include a doubleheader baseball game starting at 11 a.m. e President Soraya M. Coley is scheduled to throw out the first pitch, says Byron Howlett, acting associate vice president and dean of students.

"Homecoming is a great chance to reconnect with old friends and celebrate all of our accomplishments together as one united Bronco family," Howlett says.

A parent and family barbecue is scheduled from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the BRIC pool deck. The event will give parents and families an opportunity to meet university administrators. The Homecoming Festival is slated from noon to 5 p.m. in the Bronco Commons.

The festival will feature carnival rides, a petting zoo, food trucks, food booths run by student groups, an alumni tent with activities and a college tent offering demonstrations from various departments. Also planned is an activity tent in which student groups, departments, and campus groups will provide information and host games.

This year marks the third year the university has hosted a homecoming event, with the plan that it will remain an annual tradition, Howlett says.

The headliner concert at 3:30 p.m. on the Bronco Commons stage will feature the band Beast Coast, a Los Angeles-based rock duo.

Howlett says that organizers will offer tram tours of the campus to showcase recent development, and shuttles will be available to transport attendees to Innovation Brew Works to explore the brewery.

The Bronco women's basketball team will take on Cal State Dominguez Hills in Kellogg Gym at 5:30 p.m., while the men play at 7:30. Immediately after the men's game, there will be a fireworks show coordinated to music in the Bronco Commons.

The final event of the day will be the homecoming dance in the Bronco Student Center's Ursa Major. The dance will be primarily for Cal Poly Pomona students.

Pre-registration is encouraged for the event and can be completed online through the university's main web page. Organizers will pass out a limited amount of free giveaways to those who are registered and show up early.

"Homecoming is an important opportunity for all Broncos to celebrate our past, present and the future by meeting alumni, spending time with current students, faculty, and staff and getting a sense of where our campus is headed tomorrow," Howlett says.
