Pizza with the Presidents, the Weglyn Institute lecture series, and awards for student affairs headline President Ortiz's weekly video update.
President Ortiz will hold his fall quarter edition of Pizza with the Presidents at noon on Tuesday at the University Quad. Ortiz and ASI President James Cox will answer questions from students. Free pizza and drinks will be served.
Those who can't attend the event can follow the discussion on Twitter through Cal Poly Pomona's account or by searching for the hashtags #askOrtiz and #askASI.
After Pizza with the Presidents, the Weglyn Institute will sponsor two guest speakers who will talk about using social media for social justice and identity politics. Phil Yu is the founder and editor of the popular blog "Angry Asian Man," and Dan Matthews is an alternative hip-hop artist who produced a documentary series about meeting his biological family in South Korea.
NASPA, an organization for professionals who work in student affairs, will honor a Cal Poly Pomona program and two individuals:
- Ability Ally, a network of students, faculty and staff who promote disability awareness and support people with disabilities, will be recognized with the Innovative Program Award.
- 2013 alumnus Julio Flores will receive the Graduate Rising Star Award.
- Rebecca Gutierrez Keeton, the acting vice president for student affairs, will be honored with the Excellence in Mentoring Award.
The awards will be presented at the NASPA Region VI conference next month.
