A recent profile from the American Society of Engineering Education shows that 21 percent of Cal Poly Pomona's engineering faculty are women, putting the university second in California, and above all UCs and the other CSUs.

Contributing to this success are two developments in recent years. Cal Poly Pomona was awarded a five-year ADVANCE grant by the National Science Foundation, concluding in 2012, which aimed to increase the number of women faculty in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) through recruitment, retention, and career development activities.

In 2011, a new engineering dean was named. Upon joining the team, Dean Mahyar Amouzegar expressed his commitment to increasing the number of women in engineering, both for faculty and student populations, with hopes for improving the pipeline of qualified graduates.

The number of female faculty and students has significantly increased in recent years, with the percentage of incoming female engineering students reaching 21 percent in fall 2014.
