President Ortiz talks in his weekly video update about recent rankings of Cal Poly Pomona, a professor's new book, and emergency preparedness plans.
Students who graduated from Cal Poly Pomona ranked 74th out of 1,312 universities nationwide in terms of return on their investment in higher education, according to Payscale, the web's largest database of salaries and compensation. That was higher than all but two University of California campuses. The return on investment was calculated by comparing salary data of alumni 20 years after graduation and the actual cost of attending college.
Meanwhile, the Princeton Review highlighted Cal Poly Pomona in its "Guide to 332 Green Colleges," which profiles universities and colleges that have made a strong commitment to sustainability. And the Collins College of Hospitality Management was ranked among the top 10 hospitality and tourism graduate programs by the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Education.
Education Professor Aubrey Fine, who is also a clinical psychologist, has written a new book that explores the benefits that animal companions offer to their human owners. It is based in part on Professor Fine's work using therapy animals to help treat children with emotional, social or physical problems.
