Nancy Rosenberg, who worked for 30 years as an X-ray technician for Student Health and Counseling Services before retiring with emeritus status last June, died Feb. 26 after complications from surgery. She was 62.
Rosenberg was born in the South and raised in Southern California. She came to work at Cal Poly Pomona in September 1983.
As an X-ray technician, Rosenberg was responsible for taking and developing X-ray films and later helped lay the foundation for conversion to digital X-rays. She was known for developing a great rapport with patients and making them feel comfortable and cared for. Rosenberg also served on the Radiation Safety Committee for many years.
In addition, Rosenberg pitched in and helped wherever needed in the clinic. For example, she stuffed envelopes for mass mailings. She created the process for verifying immunization records for all entering freshmen and foreign-born students. She organized booths and put together gift bags and other material for events like HealthFest and BroncoFusion. Rosenberg also represented the clinic at events, sometimes giving up her weekends to do so.
"Nancy was a key component to the cohesiveness of her department, often bringing joy and laughter to those around her as she provided the voice of reason during staff meetings and discussions," says friend Debbie Jackley, the Student Health and Counseling Services' marketing coordinator. "She loved to bake and contribute to departmental potlucks and parties, often taking charge of the decorations and small finishing touches that made the events special."
She served on the committee that searched for a new student health services director in 2008.
Rosenberg is survived by her husband Bruce, sons Andrew and Brian, sister Becky, and granddaughter Lily.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, March 6, at Todd Memorial Chapel, 570 North Garey Ave. in Pomona. An informal reception will be held immediately afterwards at the family's home. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society.
