Cal Poly Pomona applications for entrance fall 2014 have increased to 46,202 undergraduate applicants, with an additional 2,899 applications over the previous year (43,303).
"The increases in rates show the university's soaring popularity among CSU campuses. People are realizing the value of our polytechnic, learn-by-doing approach, which has been a hallmark of our approach to education. We make it a point to blend theory and practical experience. That leads to prepared graduates and highly successful alumni," said university President Michael Ortiz. "We used to be the best kept secret in higher education, and now the word is quickly spreading about the quality of a Cal Poly Pomona education."
Among freshman applications, the university experienced a 4.2 percent increase over last year with 32,418 freshman applications. In comparison, CSU system applications are up 2.8 percent.
Transfer applications have increased 13.2 percent. We have the second highest transfer application increase in the CSU, only behind Bakersfield. At the system level, campuses saw an average increase of 0.2 percent.
The increase in applications to Cal Poly Pomona is also higher than local CSUs in Dominguez Hills, Fullerton, Long Beach, Los Angeles, and San Bernardino. Undergraduate admissions offers will be sent beginning mid-January and will continue through April 15.
