The Cal Poly Pomona Foundation Inc. will welcome the university community back to campus on Thursday with the 30th Annual Hot Dog Caper.
A team of nearly 500 volunteers will distribute about 16,000 free hot dogs to students, staff and faculty at University Park from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Chips, ice cream and drinks are also on the menu.
In honor of Cal Poly Pomona's 75th diamond anniversary, this year's event will feature a game in which participants hunt for faux diamonds. Anyone who finds one can trade it in for a Bronco gift card and will be automatically entered into a raffle for an iPad mini. In addition, this year's logo includes an anthropomorphic hot dog dressed as a detective in search of diamonds.
The event also will include live music from Live Band Karaoke, giving students, faculty and staff the opportunity to get on stage and sing with the band. It will also feature two photo booths, airbrush tattoos, prizes and vendor booths.
The foundation is a nonprofit organization that acts as an auxiliary to the university. It raises and contributes funding for student programs, scholarships and infrastructure.
