The campus community is invited to preview Cal Poly Pomona's redesigned website, which will officially launch Monday, May 13. Learn more about the new features, and the planning and design process at a town hall meeting next week.
Sessions will be held:
- Wednesday, May 8 at 5 p.m. in the BSC, Ursa Major AB
- Thursday, May 9 at noon in the BSC, Centaurus room
The first phase of the launch will include the university home page and heavily used or needed pages. Later phases will update individual colleges, departments and organizations.
Users will notice a more intuitive design, focused more on the audiences' needs rather than the organization's structure. Other important changes based on user feedback include:
- Easily accessible links to popular sites in the header and footer
- Scrolling campus topics featuring the biggest news, events and issues happening at Cal Poly Pomona
- Quick view of the local weather
- An entire section devoted to campus life
A new content management system has been put into place to organize and update the website. The new system, called Cascade Server, allows university staff to easily update information from any computer with internet service. In addition, the new website will feature responsive design, making it easy to view from computers, smart phones and tablets.
The current website, which was introduced in 2009, met the university's needs at the time. However, a new website was required to take advantage of new technology and web standards.
Extensive usability surveys conducted with current and prospective students helped define the needs and expectations for the new design. Because the website is often the first point of contact for future students and visitors - and also a key influence on their perception of Cal Poly Pomona - the new home page will cater to those groups, as well as to current students.
The website redesign is led by a cross-functional web team working with a website taskforce that included representatives from across campus and university leaders from IT Governance. If you have questions about the new website, visit www.cpp.edu/webredesign/.
