Rachel Broguiere, a senior in apparel merchandising and management, has won a $5,000 scholarship as part of a national case study competition held by the Young Menswear Association (YMA).
Broguiere received the award at a YMA banquet held Jan. 8 at the Waldorf Astoria in Manhattan. In addition to the award and travel expenses to attend the event, Rachel will receive a professional internship at one of the YMA member companies this summer.
The YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund hosts an annual scholarship case study competition open to juniors and seniors of the member schools. This year is the first time that Cal Poly Pomona apparel merchandising and management students were invited to participate.
Each student was required to complete a case study, conducting thorough research on a fashion company of their choice, including a market and competitive analysis, and a product design and positioning strategy. Broguiere worked for the majority of the fall quarter to create a tween line for her chosen flash sales retailer, HauteLook. In December, she was thrilled to discover that she had won the prize.
This is not the first prize Broguiere has received. In June 2012, she was awarded the Elizabeth Tracy Outstanding Academic Achievement award by the AMM faculty.
