In this week's video message, President Ortiz congratulates the 2012 recipients of the Outstanding Staff Award. The four individuals will be recognized at the Staff Appreciation luncheon on June 14. The recipients are: Jesse Quiroz, landscape services; Jorge Bonilla, Student Affairs Information & Technology Services; Sonia Campos, intercollegiate athletics; and Kevin Malone, College of Education & Integrative Studies.

The president also recognizes the 31 faculty who have received emeritus status, a title given to those who have made a significant contribution to the university, students and the academy. Their names are listed in the PDF transcript of the president's message.

Faculty and staff are invited to celebrate Ron Simons for his nearly 50 years of service to the university and receiving his doctoral degree. A special reception, hosted by President Ortiz and his wife Betty, will be held Thursday, June 7 at 4 p.m. at the Manor House. To RSVP, email pabedoya@cpp.edu.

The president also shares his thoughts on Chancellor Reed's retirement announcement last week. "Throughout my career, I have never met anyone who cares more about students than Charlie Reed," Ortiz says. "There is no question in my mind that the CSU is a great university system, thanks to Chancellor Reed."
