University President Michael Ortiz has been honored as the 2012 Education Honoree of the second annual San Gabriel Civic Alliance Awards. The awards highlight civic leaders who address issues that impact the San Gabriel Valley.

The awards presentation was held at the Baldwin Park Courtyard Marriott Hotel on May 19. Actors Mike Gomez and Magi Avila were masters of ceremonies for the event.

The mission of the San Gabriel Civic Alliance is to find non-partisan solutions to community problems, increase civic engagement and boost the San Gabriel Valley economy.

Other award recipients included Sheriff Lee Baca for the Lifetime Service Award, and assemblymen Curt Hagman (R-Chino Hills) and Anthony Portantino (D-La Cañada Flintridge) for the Government award.
