Cal Poly Pomona's student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers captured the overall first in the Pacific Southwest Conference and competition. Hosted by the civil engineering department at Cal Poly Pomona on March 22-24, the competition included about 1,000 civil engineering students from 18 universities in Central and Southern California, Southern Nevada, Arizona and Hawaii.
Cal Poly Pomona placed:

- 1st in geotechnical
- 1st in environmental
- 1st in surveying
- 1st in impromptu communications/writing event
Cal Poly Pomona's concrete canoe team will move on to the 25th Annual ASCE National Concrete Canoe Competition, which will be held at the University of Nevada Reno on June 14-16. In the 2011 national competition, 23 universities competed and Cal Poly Pomona placed fourth overall.
