President Ortiz's delivers his weekly video message in Kellogg Gym, which was recently renovated to improve safety, efficiency and quality. The gym sports new wooden floors, professional-style basketball hoops, new seating and modern lighting. The president also encourages the campus community to support intercollegiate athletics' seating campaign.
President Ortiz highlights the Waste-to-Energy Summit Friday, which will be held at the Lyle Center. The discussion will focus on using methane as a source of renewable energy. Participants include Congresswoman Grace Napolitano and Ron Goodman with the Southern California Gas Company.
The video message recaps the many events over the last couple of weeks, including the Provost¿s Awards for Excellence Symposium, Matt's Run and the Pumpkin Festival.
In addition, the president highlights a few upcoming events and activities. The annual competition blood drive vs. Mt. SAC will be held this week in the Bronco Student Center. Medical writer and editor Harriet Washington will speak on campus Wednesday as part of a series presented by the La Bounty Endowed Chair of Interdisciplinary Applied Knowledge. Finally, the volleyball team will face Cal State Stanislaus Friday night at Kellogg Gym. The theme of the game is "THINK PINK" in support of breast cancer awareness.
