Dr. Shanthi Srinivas, a faculty member in the College of Business Administration since 1988, has been named associate vice president for academic planning, policy & faculty affairs by Provost Marten denBoer. Her new appointment begins June 15.

"This is an exciting time for me, and I am honored to have been chosen from such a distinguished group of finalists," Srinivas says. "I have had an opportunity to serve the university in many different roles during my tenure here at Cal Poly Pomona. This new position will allow me to expand my relationships with the academic community and contribute to the effectiveness of academic affairs. I look forward to the challenges that lie ahead."

Srinivas began her university career as an assistant professor in management and human resources, and was promoted to professor in 1994. She provided administrative service to the university as chair of the management and human resources department (1999-2005) and went on to serve as associate dean of the College of Business Administration (2005-07).

"Cal Poly Pomona is very fortunate to have Shanthi accept this important role," denBoer says. "Throughout her tenure at the university, she has consistently demonstrated her ability to manage complex administrative issues, engage faculty, and think deeply and creatively about the changing academic landscape. This AVP position requires a multi-dimensional relationship with the academic community, and I am confident Shanthi will excel in all of them. I would like to extend my thanks and appreciation to Gary Hamilton for his tireless work in an interim capacity, and to the search committee, under the leadership of co-chairs Carmen Munoz-Silva and John Self, for its diligent efforts."

From 2009 to 2010, Srinivas served as chair of the university's Educational Effectiveness Review Committee in support of Cal Poly Pomona's accreditation with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Last month, the organization reaffirmed the university's accreditation for 10 years - the maximum term granted.

Srinivas earned her Ph.D. in business administration at The Pennsylvania State University (1987), a master of arts degree in social work from the University of Madras (1979, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India), a diploma in advertising & public relations (1977, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Chennai, India) and a bachelor of arts in psychology from the University of Madras (1976).
