President Ortiz's Video Message for Feb. 7

In his weekly video message, President Ortiz shares that the university will begin planning for its $25 million share of the $500 million cut to the CSU, proposed in the governor's 2011-12 budget. The video outlines the process that the university will use to manage the cuts.

Each of the vice presidents, as well as the President's Office, will draw up recommendations to address the budget reductions. The recommendations will be forwarded to the campus-wide budget committees, then to the President's Cabinet. The president will have the final review and approval.

President Ortiz also shares that the university has received 34,000 applications for fall admission for freshmen and transfer students. An additional 3,000 applications are expected for graduate and credential programs.

Because the budget and enrollment planning processes are based on numbers that are frequently changing, the final budget cannot be predicted. Ortiz pledges to keep the campus community informed of the progress.
