Police received a call from an employee about a man carrying a suspicious object on his belt. Officers identified the man and confirmed he was a student carrying surveying instruments.

Police Chief Michael Guerin says he appreciates the staff member's concern for campus safety and for calling police.

"Campus safety is a partnership," Guerin says. "It's important that faculty, staff and students be on alert for suspicious activity. Fortunately, this case turned out to be a false alarm, but we always prefer people to err on the side of caution."
