… but what if it were the Big One?

safetyalert.jpgThe earthquake on July 7 did not cause any injuries or damage on campus, but it serves as a reminder that we could be a moment away from a real emergency. All faculty, staff and students are urged to update their emergency contact information in BroncoDirect. This data are used in the Cal Poly Pomona Safety Alert System in the event of a campus emergency.

The university is planning a system test on Thursday, July 29, on the two-year anniversary of the 5.5 magnitude Chino Hills earthquake.

The Safety Alert System is the university's emergency messaging system, which can simultaneously send alerts to phones, e-mail addresses, text/SMS and TTY/TDD devices. The university tests the system throughout the year to ensure it is functioning properly as well as to familiarize the campus community with this important emergency communication vehicle.

It will be used only for emergency communication purposes and never for routine communications.

To ensure you receive the test messages and become familiar
with the Safety Alert System, please update your information on BroncoDirect immediately.
Test messages from the Safety Alert System will have the ID 23177 on text
messages, (866) 869-7659 on phone messages and Cal Poly Pomona Safety Alert at safetyalert@cpp.edu on e-mail
messages. You are encouraged to add these contacts into your cell phones or
e-mails under Cal Poly Pomona Safety Alert.

If you are adding a cell phone number into BroncoDirect for the first
time, you may be asked to confirm that you want to receive text messages from
the Safety Alert.

ATTENTION RECENT GRADUATES: Your personal data will
not have been purged from BroncoDirect by the scheduled test date. Please be
aware that you may receive a Safety Alert on July 29.
