Writer and lecturer Tim Wise will be the keynote speaker at the Cultural Centers' 15-year anniversary celebration on Wednesday, May 12, at 5:30 p.m. in the Bronco Student Center.
Wise has spoken at Harvard, Stanford and Yale, among other universities, and has also trained many officials on methods of dismantling racism in their institutions.
In his speech, Wise will examine the ongoing problem of racism in America at both institutional and personal levels. He will challenge the audience to take action to undo persistent racial inequity and racial bias.
"Between Barack and a Hard Place: Challenging Racism, Privilege and Denial in the Age of Obama," Wise's latest book, will also be discussed. The book explores how Barack Obama's emergence as a political force is taking the race debate to new levels.
This event is free and open to the public. For more information about the cultural centers, visit https://dsa.cpp.edu/osl/.
