Spring blooms musical at Cal Poly Pomona. The music department presents extensive offering of guest artists, special events, movie screenings and student performances throughout Spring Quarter.
On April 20 the U.S. West Point Woodwind Quintet will give a free master class/lecture and concert in the Music Recital Hall. The quintet performs regularly at many military functions and special events, including annual receptions hosted by the Superintendent of the United States Military Academy, presidential receptions in New York City, and the 40th Anniversary of the United Nations.
"Seussical the Musical" runs May 13-15 and is presented by the Music Theater Workshop. Based on the works by Dr. Seuss, Seussical explores several of the classic stories in song and dance. The show is directed by Susan Burns with musical direction by Janet Noll.
Special guest pianist Victor Rosenbaum will give a free master class on May 17 at noon, followed by a concert at 8 p.m. with Nadia Shpachenko, music professor and pianist. They will perform works by Haydn, Beethoven, Chopin and Schubert's "Fantasie in F Minor for Piano Four-Hands, D.940."

The eclectic soundtrack includes songs by Bob Dylan, Captain Beefheart, Elvis Costello, Duke Ellington, Henry Mancini, Sons of the Pioneers, and Booker T & the MG's. The cast includes John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Julianne Moore, Tara Reid and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

The film features a classic rock soundtrack (Foghat, Alice Cooper, ZZ Top, Nazareth, Ted Nugent, Sweet, War, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Deep Purple, KISS, Black Sabbath) that captures the Zeitgeist of 1970's suburbia. Classical guitarist Stuart Green released the world premier recording of the works of Spanish guitarist/composer Trinidad Huerta and a three-volume set of the complete works of French Baroque guitarist/composer Robert de Visee. In 2001, Green was invited to speak on the Frederick Noad Discussion Panel, which included some of the most respected guitar educators and performers in America, at the La Guitarra California Festival in San Luis Obispo.
