Robert Karmann and animal science student Jeannie Knuchell.

The National Meat Association chose fourth-year animal science student Jeannie Knuchell to receive the Edie Schmidt NMA Memorial Scholarship of $2,500 and a travel stipend to attend the NMA 64th Annual Convention in Indian Wells. Knuchell is a College of Agriculture Peer Advisor, Agriculture Council Secretary and Livestock Show Team Secretary. She has also served on Encinitas Interhall Council and as a Welcome Week Leader.

"I hope to pursue a career in food animal veterinary medicine ultimately working for the United States Food Safety and Inspection Services or Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services," she says.

Knuchell, Professor Shelton Murinda, Bob Karmann, Jose Navarro and two other students will represent Cal Poly Pomona at the 2011 NMA MeatExpo in Las Vegas.
