Philip Lukeman, Department of Chemistry, served as a panelist and workshop leader at the 8th Annual Symposium of the UCLA Center for Society and Genetics and Art/Science. "Outlaw Biology? Public Participation in the Age of Big Bio" was held Jan. 29-30 at the California NanoSystems Institute on UCLA's campus. The panel discussion focused on open source science, do-it-yourself biology, at home medical genetics, bio-art and other topics related to public participation in biological research. During his workshop, "Outlaw DNA Nano Design," Lukeman demonstrated the open source software caDNAno, which allows users to design their own DNA nanostructures.
