Collaborating for Excellence: Engaging with Kellogg Honors College
The work of the Kellogg Honors College (KHC) is only possible through the collaboration and service of faculty across colleges, departments and programs. Here are some ways that you can get involved with the KHC and some valuable resources to support your work with us. Letters documenting faculty work for the KHC are sent by the director to participating faculty for inclusion in their RTP packets.
Recruiting KHC Students
Our admission process begins in the Spring semester, but recruiting students is a year- round endeavor. We admit First Time Freshmen, Transfer and Sophomore students. Faculty can support our recruiting efforts by sharing information about our program and encouraging students to apply. To request fliers, presentations, or other materials to share with your 1000 level classes and students, please e-mail Dr. Claudia Garcia-Des Lauriers at clauriers@cpp.edu or refer them to the KHC web page for more information. Recruiting materials available in English or Spanish.
Admission and/or Scholarship Application Reviewer
Honors students are chosen through an application review process that takes place during the Spring semester of every year. Each application for admission consists of a cover letter, resume, and essay and is reviewed by two faculty and/or staff reviewers. Instructions and rubrics are provided for consistency. The KHC Director will reach out to a diversity of faculty across campus colleges and departments to serve as reviewers. If you are interested in serving as a reviewer for either admissions applications or scholarship applications, please reach out to the KHC Director (clauriers@cpp.edu).
Teach for KHC
All of our honors courses are housed in the General Education Curriculum and are honors versions of GE classes. Classes are capped at 20 honors students and KHC offers instructional support grants. If you teach a GE course and are interested in developing an honors version of your course, please reach out to the KHC Director. We will need your Department Chair’s approval to buy your time for teaching an honors course.
Become a KHC Faculty Fellow
Every year, we bring in faculty fellows to support the work of the KHC director or faculty who want to be more involved in honors education at CPP. In the past, Faculty Fellows have supported program assessment, organized programing, supported recruitment, among other projects. KHC is also open to faculty fellows interested in redesigning their honors courses to pilot innovative pedagogy. Faculty fellows can serve 1-2 semesters and receive 3WTU release time per semester to work on projects for KHC. Applicants are encouraged to speak with KHC Director and collaborate on the proposed project for fellowship term. Applications will be reviewed by KHC Director and an additional faculty or admirative reviewer.
Applications are accepted year-round and can be found at the following link. Awards are based on quality of project proposed, clearly articulate deliverable work, and funding availability.
Due to Budget Cuts, applications will be paused for AY 24-25.
Budget and established a short grant application to support the implementation of engaged learning experiences, CURES, undergraduate research, or other HIPS (field trips, service-learning components, etc.) in honors courses. Grants may request financial, logistical, and/or administrative support for activities in honors classes. These grants have a rolling deadline and will be reviewed by the KHC director and member(s) of the KHC Advisory Council.

They undertake this ELE project over the course of a semester and present it at the Kellogg Honors College Symposium held in the first weekend in March at the RSCA conference. If you are interested in working with our talented honors students, please consider mentoring their ELE project. Click here for the ELE Mentor FAQ
The KHC Advisory Council is composed of faculty representatives from each of the eight colleges, KHC students ,and alumni. We meet once a month on the third Friday. The members of the council serve as champions and representatives of KHC in their colleges, helping us recruit and support honors students. They also serve as advisors to the KHC director on matters of policy and procedures. Appointments are for 1 year with possibility of reappointment. Reaching out to the KHC director if you are interested in representing your college on the KHC Advisory Council.
