About Me
Dr. Yonsu Kim has served as a clinical data analyst at government agencies and a researcher at KDI, a leading think tank in Asia. He has interdisciplinary academic backgrounds including planning, economics, sociology and health policy.
He has taught research design, social justice, community health, urban studies, applied statistics, environmental analysis and environmental ethics at Cal Poly Pomona and UC Irvine, being passionate about mentoring diverse student learners.
His research interests include urban governance, policy analysis, health disparities and clinical informatics. He has worked on eliminating health disparities among racial/ethnic minorities by identifying social and environmental determinants of health with a focus on Los Angeles Metropolitan Area, and addressed how health of vulnerable populations responds to variations in governance, public financing and access to healthcare. He is currently exploring large data on planning, transportation and Electronic Heath Record through applications of data science skills such as informatics, statistics, cluster computing, programming languages and visualization to identify risk factors for chronic disease.
His work has been published in Environmental Planning, Social Science & Medicine: Population Health, and Administration and Policy and Mental Health Services Research.
He received a Bachelor in Sociology, a Masters in Economics from Hanyang University, Seoul Korea and a PhD in Planning, Policy & Design from University of California, Irvine.
