Rob Lewis is an associate professor of History at Cal Poly Pomona who specializes in modern European history, with a focus on France, urban history, and the history of sport. He received his BA in History from Carleton College and earned his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Before arriving at Cal Poly Pomona, he taught in a visiting capacity at five different small liberal arts colleges! At CPP, he enjoys teaching courses on modern Europe, the history of sport, digital history and the First World War, and world history. His first book, The Stadium Century: Sport, Spectatorship and Society in Modern France (Manchester UP, 2017) examined the history of stadiums and spectatorship in 20th-century France. He is also particularly interested in incorporating historical GIS into his research and teaching. Outside of CPP, he spends most of his time hanging out with his two small children, and enjoys bicycling and taking public transportation.
